Rain alert in 6 states including MP, hailstorm warning also

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain in many states of the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds is expected in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and light rain at some places in the plains of North-West India. At the same time, similar weather conditions will prevail in the Northeast and adjoining East India, while sporadic rainfall is also expected in the plains of Central India and Maharashtra during April 12 to 14.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Odisha during the next few days. Hailstorm is likely at some places in Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. Dust storms are also likely at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan on April 12.

Western disturbance is affecting Kashmir valley and neighbouring areas. Cyclonic circulation of upper air persists over northeast Madhya Pradesh and northeast Assam. These circulations can have an impact on the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, northeast Telangana, central Assam and west-central Bay of Bengal.

On April 12, scattered to widespread light and moderate rain, thundershowers, lightning and strong winds are likely over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Light rainfall is also likely over the plains of northwest India on the same day.

Hailstorm is possible at some places in Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh on April 12 and in Jharkhand on April 15. Dust storms are likely at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan on April 12 itself. At the same time, thunderstorms are likely at isolated places in Madhya Pradesh and eastern Uttar Pradesh at a speed of 50-60 kmph.

Light to moderate rainfall, thundershowers, lightning and strong winds are likely over Northeast and adjoining eastern areas during the next 7 days. On the other hand, light rainfall, thundershowers, lightning and strong winds are likely over plain areas of Central India and Maharashtra during 12 to 14 April.

Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive heavy rainfall on 12 April. Heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 12 and 14 April. Heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya during 12-14 April. Odisha may receive heavy rainfall on 14 and 15 April.
