‘Rahul ji, I apologize to you…’, MP Congress state president Jitu Patwari says in his speech

Indore: Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari apologized to his senior leader Rahul Gandhi for losing all 29 seats in the state in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Speaking at the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhaan’ rally in the presence of Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge in Mhow, Patwari further claimed that if the Congress had won at least 10 seats in MP, Narendra Modi would not have become the Prime Minister for the third time.

Taking the blame for the defeat, Patwari said, “Rahul ji, I apologize to you that we could not do well in the Lok Sabha. If we had won a few seats from here, we would have stopped Modi ji. I blame myself for this. We will all together make up for this electoral defeat in the times to come. I assure you again that all of us in the Congress family will together ensure that the party’s old glory returns in the state.” The state Congress president said that there was a lot of disappointment among the Congress workers after losing the last assembly elections in the state, but now the party is standing again with full strength. Patwari alleged that the ruling BJP has not fulfilled the big promises made to the voters in the 2023 MP assembly elections.

Earlier, Jitu Patwari had come into the limelight by comparing factionalism in the state unit to ‘cancer’. He had called upon the party workers to end factionalism. This warning of Patwari came to the fore in a video surfaced on social media. In a video surfaced on social media, Patwari was heard saying, “There is cancer in Congress, factionalism and cancer of factionalism. Either this cancer of factionalism has to be ended, or we will be finished. What should be done? If we do not end the cancer of factionalism, we will be finished.”

The ruling BJP leaders latched on to this statement to corner the Congress and said that Patwari has finally spoken the ‘truth’ about the opposition party. Regarding this, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said, “There are big leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Kharge ji (Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge) in Congress. In Madhya Pradesh, their party leaders are talking about cancer (in the party). I fail to understand who is suffering from cancer. I don’t know. Those who are running the party should give an explanation.”
