Will Benjamin Netanyahu be arrested in the midst of war? There is a stir in Israel

New Delhi: There has been a stir in international politics regarding the possible arrest of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Amnesty International has demanded from Hungary that if Netanyahu comes there, he should be arrested and handed over to the International Crimes Court. This demand has come at a time when Netanyahu is going to go there this week on the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

It is worth noting that the ICC issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu in November. He has been accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. These charges include using hunger as a weapon, deliberately attacking civilians, murder and oppression.

However, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban is considered close to Netanyahu and has indicated that he will not implement the arrest warrant. But Hungary is a member of the ICC and is obliged to obey any order of the court. Amnesty International’s global policy chief Erica Guevara-Rosas said that if Netanyahu’s visit ends without arrest, it will encourage Israel to commit more crimes in the future.

Amnesty International says that Netanyahu’s visit could be an attempt to openly disregard the ICC and international law. The organization has appealed to European leaders to demand Hungary to arrest Netanyahu and play their role in maintaining international law.

The governments of Israel and Hungary have not yet given any official response to this appeal. But this matter has sparked a new debate in Europe about human rights and international justice. If Hungary does not arrest Netanyahu, it may raise questions about the legitimacy of the ICC and may also prompt other countries to adopt a flexible approach in such cases.

This entire incident has also affected the political situation in Israel. The government there is already facing international criticism over the Gaza war. If pressure increases regarding Netanyahu’s visit, it could become a new diplomatic challenge for him.
