New Delhi. Amid allegations of big businessman Gautam Adani offering bribe to get contracts for solar energy projects, now the White House has issued a statement. The White House says that we are aware of these allegations.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre said that we are keeping an eye on this matter. Only the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DoJ) will be able to provide necessary information regarding these allegations, but I will talk about the impact of this matter on India-US relations.
Let us tell you that Gautam Adani has been surrounded by new allegations. It is about giving a bribe of about Rs 2,250 crore to Indian officials to get contracts for solar energy projects in India. Adani Group had raised funds from American investors for these projects, which is why this case has come against him in the US court. The group was expecting a profit of about $ 2 billion in 20 years from these projects.
The main characters in this entire case are Gautam Adani, chairman and founder of Adani Group, Sagar Adani, executive director of Adani Green Energy, Ranjit Gupta, former CEO of Azure Power, Rupesh Aggarwal, an American issuer who is an advisor to Azure Power. According to the US indictment, Adani Group and the American issuer had secured a contract to provide 12 gigawatts of solar power to the government-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), but SECI could not find buyers in India to buy the solar power. Without buyers, the deal could not proceed and both companies were at risk of huge losses. Therefore, Adani Group and Azure Power offered bribes to Indian government officials.
