Dehradun. Parliamentary Affairs and Finance Minister of the state Premchand Agarwal, who has been facing opposition for a long time due to his controversial statement regarding the hills and plains in the Uttarakhand Assembly, has resigned from his post. He submitted his resignation to Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Chief Minister’s residence here on Sunday. During this he cried. He said that today he is being targeted who contributed to Uttarakhand. He got lathicharged in the state movement.
Uttarakhand Parliamentary Affairs and Finance Minister Premchand Agarwal became emotional while resigning from his post. He said- The way the words of an agitator like me were twisted and presented. The way the atmosphere was created in the entire state regarding this. I am very sad about this. I am very hurt. With this Premchand Agarwal cried. He further said that I am ready to contribute whatever I can to take the state forward.
Recently, during the budget session in the assembly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal was enraged at the comment made by Congress MLA Madan Bisht about him. He had said that did we agitate for this day and demand Uttarakhand that comments should be made about Pahadi and Desi. Is Uttarakhand made only for the people of the hills? During this, an abusive word also came out of his mouth.
The political temperature of the state had increased due to this statement of the minister. Congress and some other organizations had protested at various places across the state demanding his removal from the cabinet. However, later the minister also expressed regret for his statement. The matter had escalated to such an extent that CM Pushkar Singh Dhami had said in a warning tone that those who try to break the unity of Uttarakhand will not be spared. Whether such people are ministers, MLAs or MPs.
According to a report, Chief Minister Dhami had gone to Delhi even before Holi. He had discussed the issue with the top BJP leaders. Since then, it was believed that Premchand Agarwal’s resignation could be taken soon. Protests were being held over Premchand Agarwal’s statement and his effigies were being burnt. Congress and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) had demanded the removal of Premchand Agarwal from the cabinet.
The government was also seen on the backfoot due to the continuous uproar over the statement of Cabinet Minister Premchand Agarwal. Congress was constantly raising this issue on social media and creating a ruckus. At the same time, State BJP President Mahendra Bhatt and State General Secretary (Organization) Ajay Kumar had also summoned Premchand Agarwal. The State BJP President had strictly instructed Minister Premchand Agarwal to exercise restraint and use appropriate vocabulary.
Uttarakhand will not forget his words: Congress
Uttarakhand Minister Premchand Agarwal resigned from the cabinet on Sunday. Protests were going on for several weeks after his alleged controversial remarks on the people of the hilly areas of the state in the Assembly. According to the official statement, Premchand Agarwal, who has handled the responsibility of many important departments including Finance and Parliamentary Affairs, submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his official residence.
Congress’ statement has come out on the resignation of Cabinet Minister Premchand. Congress said that this is the result of arrogance. Former CM of the state and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat said that this is the result of arrogance, when there is no control over the tongue, then what kind of leader are you. The arrogance in BJP also affected Premchand Agarwal, he is not alone. Uttarakhand will not forget his words.
Harish Rawat said that Premchand is not alone. The arrogance of BJP came out in the words of Premchand. He used very insulting words. Uttarakhand will not forget this wound. I am very sad with the way Premchand’s words hit. If he has really resigned, then perhaps he has escaped a big disgrace, but the public will not forgive the BJP.
It is worth noting that during the budget session in the assembly, Premchand Agarwal was facing continuous opposition for his indecent remarks against the hill people. The opposition parties were demanding his resignation. While submitting his resignation to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Premchand Agarwal spoke about his contribution to the state movement in a press conference. He said that he had clarified the statement he had given in the House on the same day. My sentiments were not wrong at all.
