New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is seen mobilizing South Indian states against the Central government. He said on Sunday that there was never a need for South unity before this. He also objected to the RBI i.e. Reserve Bank of India’s decision to withdraw money from ATM.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam President Stalin, while wishing Ugadi to Telugu and Kannada speaking people, stressed the need for unity. He also said that everyone should unite to thwart all efforts to undermine our rights and identity.
He wrote, ‘I wish all my Telugu and Kannada speaking Dravidian sisters and brothers a happy Ugadi as you welcome the new year with hope and celebration.’
Stalin said, “In the face of increasing linguistic and political threats like imposition of Hindi and delimitation, the need for southern unity has never been greater. We must unite and defeat all attempts to undermine our rights and identity.” He said, “This Ugadi should ignite the spirit of resistance and solidarity that keeps us united.”
Furious at RBI
Stalin strongly opposed the RBI’s decision to allow banks to charge up to Rs 23 for ATM withdrawals beyond the monthly limit. He said, “The central government urged everyone to open bank accounts. Then there was demonetisation and talk of Digital India.”
Stalin said, “What happened after this? Charges on digital transactions, penalty for low balance and now RBI has allowed banks to charge up to Rs 23 for ATM withdrawals beyond the monthly limit.” He said, “This will lead to people withdrawing more money than they need and the objectives of financial inclusion, especially of the poor, will be negated.”
The Chief Minister said, “The beneficiaries of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, who are already short of funds, and the poor people who benefit from our Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam cash transfers will be the worst hit.” He added, “This is not digitisation. This is institutional extortion. The poor rob, the rich smile.”
