The report said that the Jeju Air plane had 175 passengers and 6 flight attendants on board, the plane was returning from Bangkok and crashed while landing. The airport is in the southern part of South Korea. Pictures shared by local media show smoke coming out of the plane.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the plane slipped off the runway and collided with a fence. The incident took place at 9:07 am local time at the southwestern coastal airport. South Korea’s acting President Choi Sung-mok has given instructions to speed up relief and rescue operations.
On December 25, an Azerbaijan Airlines jet crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan, killing 38 of the 67 people on board. Yonhap News Agency reported that due to a malfunction in the landing gear, the plane deviated from the runway and collided with a fence. Officials said they were investigating the exact cause of the fire. Visuals showed the plane landing without opening the landing gear and eventually exploding.
