Ruckus during Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s speech at Oxford University, crowd asked sharp questions

  • March 28, 2025

Kolkata. There was a huge ruckus during the speech given by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Oxford University’s Kellogg College. Student leaders of the Students Federation of India (SFI) raised slogans of ‘Go Back’ and raised questions on the issue related to R.G. Kar Medical College.

In response to the questions raised by the students, Mamata Banerjee said, ‘This matter is in court, this case is with the central government. Do not do politics here, this platform is not for politics. You are lying, do not make it a political platform. You go to Bengal and strengthen your party further.

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee showed a photo to the crowd and said that you see this picture of mine, how an attempt was made to kill me.

Mamata surrounded by questions from the audience
Further, when Mamata Banerjee claimed that investment proposals worth lakhs of crores of rupees have come in Bengal, a viewer asked her to name specific investments. To this, Mamata replied, ‘There are so many…’ Before she could elaborate, others asked the person to shut up, arguing that this is not a press conference.

‘Let me speak, don’t insult the institution’
Mamata Banerjee said that she should be given a chance to put forth her point. She said, ‘You let me speak. You are insulting your institution, not me. These people do this everywhere I go. I support every religion. I respect Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians. Don’t name only one caste, name everyone. What you people are doing is not right. My ultra left and communal friends, don’t do this politics.’

‘I will only bow my head in front of the public’
When some of the audience raised slogans of ‘Go away’, Mamata Banerjee confidently said, ‘Didi does not care. Didi will come twice a year and fight like a Royal Bengal Tiger.’ Apart from this, she said, ‘If you say, I will wash your clothes, cook food for you. But if someone tries to bow down or forces me, I will not bow down. I will only bow my head in front of the public.’

SFI-UK took responsibility of the protest
The responsibility of this protest has been taken by SFI-UK (Students Federation of India – UK). The organization wrote in a post on its Facebook page, ‘We are raising our voice against the corrupt, undemocratic rule of Mamata Banerjee and TMC in support of the students and working class of West Bengal.’

This entire incident has once again brought the politics of West Bengal in the limelight, especially sparking a fresh debate on the protests taking place during Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s foreign visits.
