Rajasthan: Thieves stole crude oil from IOCL’s Gujarat-Panipat pipeline by making a tunnel, this is how it was revealed

January 08, 2025

Kotputli: A case of oil theft from Indian Oil’s underground pipeline has come to light in Alwar, Rajasthan. Here, thieves rented a plot near Shahjahanpur National Highway No. 48 toll plaza. Then built a concrete tunnel in it. After this, a large amount of crude oil was stolen by installing a valve in the Indian crude oil pipeline. The entire case has been caught by the SOG. The SOG team that arrived from Jaipur is investigating the matter.

DSP Shiv Kumar Bhardwaj of Jaipur SOG, who is investigating the case of crude oil theft, said that a complaint was lodged with the SOG on Monday. In this complaint, it was said that Kailash Chand, a resident of Shahjahanpur, has a farm on Belni Marg on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, in which a boundary has been made. This farm was rented by the oil thieves.

The supply pipeline of Indian crude oil from the rented field is going from Gujarat to Panipat in Haryana. The oil thieves made a tunnel to that pipeline and built a concrete structure with thick cement tiles and installed valves in it and committed theft.

SOG investigation officer Shiv Kumar Bhardwaj said that the pressure of regular supply of crude oil supply line decreased on 26 December. When the level in it fell, the company management suspected oil theft from the line. When the company management investigated it at its own level, it was found that oil was being stolen near the toll plaza of Shahjahanpur.

After this, Hemant Kumar, co-manager of Indian Oil Corporation Rewari, lodged a report of crude oil theft from the oil supply line in Shahjahanpur police station. Shahjahanpur police station officer Pukhraj Meena sent this matter to Jaipur SOG. On Tuesday, DSP Shiv Kumar Bhardwaj of SOG team arrived to investigate with the local police.

Police says that a tunnel about 8 feet deep and 4 feet wide was dug from the rented farm to the supply line and cement blocks were used for cementing. Crude oil was being stolen in large quantities by installing valves along with electrical fittings and CCTV cameras to the line.

After the supply level decreased on 26 December, the company got suspicious and got the matter investigated at its own level. After this, the matter reached the police on 6 January. During this time, when the mafia came to know, it gathered its entire network and fled. While investigating this matter, a deep cemented tunnel was found along with a valve connected to the supply line, empty drums and some other items were found.

CCTV system fittings have been found at the crime scene, and as the DVR was not found in it, the SOG DSP believes that the kingpin sitting far away from the crime scene was giving instructions through CCTV by operating a high quality mobile system. During this operation, Neemrana DSP Sachin Sharma, Shahjahanpur police station in-charge Pukhraj Meena, company co-manager Hemant Kumar along with the police and SOG team were present. About ten years ago too, crude oil was stolen from the same pipeline in Shahjahanpur by installing valves in the supply lines.
