New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will offer a chadar at the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti on Saturday. Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Front President Jamal Siddiqui will go to Ajmer with the chadar. PM Modi will hand over the chadar to them at 6 pm today.
The Prime Minister sends a chadar to Ajmer Dargah every year on the Urs of the Sufi saint. The 813th Urs of Khwaja Saheb is going on from 28 December. Since becoming the Prime Minister, Modi has offered chadar at Ajmer Sharif Dargah ten times. This will be the 11th time when he will carry forward this tradition. Last year, during the 812th Urs, the then Union Minister Smriti Irani and Jamal Siddiqui offered chadar at the dargah on behalf of the Prime Minister.
It is worth noting that the chadar offered at the tomb (Mazar-e-Akhdas) of Khwaja Garib Nawaz is a symbol of devotion and respect. Offering chaadar during Urs is considered a powerful form of devotion, which is seen as a means of receiving blessings and fulfilling wishes. PM Modi’s sending chaadar this time is also important because it has been claimed that there is a temple in Ajmer Dargah. A case is going on in the court regarding this, which will be heard on January 24. Vishnu Gupta, president of Hindu Rashtra Sena, who filed the petition, had appealed not to send chaadar.
