Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves for Thailand for BIMSTEC summit

    Bangkok. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for Thailand on a two-day visit. During his visit, he will hold talks with Thailand’s Prime Minister Patongtarn Shinawatra in Bangkok and will attend the sixth BIMSTEC summit on Friday. PM Modi is scheduled to meet Shinawatra on Thursday.

    Members of the Indian community in Thailand are waiting to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his arrival in Bangkok. Prime Minister Modi will be on a 2-day visit to Thailand with a view to attending the sixth BIMSTEC summit to be held on April 4.


    Meeting with KP Sharma Oli and Mohammad Yunus also possible
    PM Modi will hold talks with BIMSTEC leaders on Thursday evening for a maritime cooperation agreement. PM Modi may also meet Nepal’s PM KP Sharma Oli and Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus at the BIMSTEC summit on Friday.

    External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar wrote on ‘X’, ‘Thank you Thailand’s Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa for the warm welcome in Bangkok for the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting. I look forward to fruitful talks today ahead of the BIMSTEC Leaders’ Summit.’

    Vaishali Tushar Urumkar, President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Association, Thailand in Bangkok, said, “I am from Pune in Maharashtra and have been living here for the last 21 years. We are excited that Prime Minister Modi is coming here. When we were going towards the hotel, everyone was talking about him. We are excited to meet him.”

    Earlier, police, dog squad conducted security checks of the hotel in Bangkok where Prime Minister Modi will stay during his visit to Thailand to attend the sixth BIMSTEC summit on April 4.

    Shinawatra will visit Wat Pho
    PM Modi and Prime Minister Shinawatra will visit Wat Pho, one of the top six temples in Thailand. This place is famous for the huge statue of reclining Buddha. Leaders of Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar and Bhutan will attend the BIMSTEC conference.
