New Delhi. Justice Yashwant Verma of Delhi High Court has taken legal advice from senior lawyers before appearing before the in-house investigation committee. Senior advocates Siddharth Agarwal, Menaka Guruswamy, Arundhati Katju and Tara Narula met Justice Verma at his residence in Lutyens Delhi. During this, Justice Verma sought legal advice from them. Let us tell you that burnt cash was allegedly recovered from Justice Yashwant Verma’s residence.
The three-member in-house committee appointed by the Supreme Court may meet Justice Verma this week. The committee constituted by the apex court inspected Justice Verma’s residence (30, Tughlaq Crescent) on Tuesday.
Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court G S Sandhawalia and Justice Anu Sivaraman of Karnataka High Court were inside Justice Verma’s residence for about 30-35 minutes. The result of this crucial investigation will decide the fate of Justice Verma, who is accused of having recovered four to five half-burnt sacks of notes from his house after the fire on March 14.
Police sealed the area with half-burnt notes
The police team had reached Justice Yashwant Verma’s residence on Wednesday, the Delhi Police team had gone to the judge’s house to seal the place of the incident, where half-burnt notes were found. Sources said that the Delhi Police team remained at the spot for about 2 hours. During this time, New Delhi DCP Devesh Kumar Mahala was also present. High Court officials assisting the three-member committee of judges also went to Justice Verma’s house and the entire action was also videographed.
Three-member committee investigating the allegations
On March 22, CJI Sanjeev Khanna constituted a three-member committee to conduct an internal inquiry into the allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma. Also, the report of Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay was decided to be uploaded online. It included photographs and videos of the alleged search.
Justice Verma’s clarification
At the same time, Justice Yashwant Verma strongly rejected the allegations and said that no cash was ever kept in the storeroom of his house by him or any member of his family.
Demand to register FIR against Justice Verma
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding registration of FIR against Justice Verma. The matter was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition. The petition has demanded that Delhi Police be directed to register an FIR, as there is no justification for the Supreme Court to form a three-judge committee in this matter.
