On November 22, the police recovered 41 bodies from the Thiphaksang Pa Sangnayatham Monastery in Phichit province of Thailand. These bodies were being used for spiritual practice in this monastery. This monastery, spread over 1,600 square meters, is located in the midst of dense forests. The presence of not only dead bodies but also more than 600 crocodiles here shocked the police. Crocodiles were kept in a large pond within the monastery, which visitors could see by coming to the monastery. On November 26, 32 more bodies were recovered from another monastery, Bang Mun Naka. Police say these bodies were kept in coffins.

The monastery’s head monk Phra Ajaan Sai Fon Pandito has claimed that these bodies were used to train Buddhist monks to overcome the “fear of death”. He says that the monks used to meditate by looking at these bodies so that they could accept the idea of ​​death. This method was part of his personal quest, which was aimed at increasing the mental stability and discipline of the monks.

Police have closed all activities of the monastery and seized the bodies. Officials say that the identity of these bodies and their origin are being investigated. The monks of the monastery have claimed that these bodies belong to their families and old monks who wished to remain in the monastery after death. They have also shown the certificates of the dead to the police, but investigations into these claims are still going on.
