Washington. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia believes that India, Brazil and African countries should get permanent representation in the United Nations Security Council. On Sunday, the state news agency ‘TASS’ gave this information in a news.
According to the news of ‘TASS’, Lavrov said in an interview to AIF Online, ‘India, Brazil as well as African countries should have got permanent representation in the Security Council a long time ago. These countries have a large population of the world, whose representation needs to be ensured.’
India has been at the forefront of efforts being made for various reforms for years, including increasing the number of permanent and temporary members of the Security Council. India says that the Security Council of 15 countries established in 1945 is not suitable for the purposes of the 21st century and does not reflect contemporary geopolitical realities.
India says that it is also entitled to become a permanent member of the Security Council. Last month, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron supported India’s claim for permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
India last became a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2021-22. There is a growing demand to increase the number of permanent members to reflect the contemporary global reality.
