New Delhi. There is not only political pressure on the judges. There is also pressure from private interest groups. Retired CJI DY Chandrachud said this. He said that these private interest groups create an environment with the help of news, TV and social media. They propagate such things that pressure is put on the judge to take a particular decision. DY Chandrachud said that even trolling is done to create pressure in this way. Attacks are made through social media.
DY Chandrachud also said that the independence of the judicial system should not be measured only by how many decisions were given against the government. He was addressing a program of Times of India on Saturday. The former CJI, who recently retired from the Supreme Court, also talked about his decisions during this time. He said that I think I have tried to create a balance. DY Chandrachud said that I have always given decisions not influenced by any particular idea, but on the basis of my judicial understanding.
On this occasion, Justice Chandrachud also said that although the CJI and the Chief Justice of all the High Courts need to work with the government on the administrative side. He recalled his reforms regarding judicial infrastructure and government funds. Apart from this, taking opinion from the governments is important in resolving the differences between the court and the executives. The former CJI cited the differences that arose between the Supreme Court Collegium and the government, which has been in the headlines many times. However, he also said that not all differences can be resolved. He said that the best example of this is that the government is still not ready to make lawyer Saurabh Kirpal a High Court judge.
DY Chandrachud said that the sexuality of a judge or his partner being a foreign citizen cannot affect his decisions. Along with this, he also talked about clarity in decisions. The former CJI said that poorly written judgments disappoint those who hope for justice.
