Monkeypox enters India too! Symptoms found in a person who returned from abroad, isolated

New Delhi: A case of monkeypox has been reported in India. In fact, recently a young man has been identified as a suspected case of monkeypox infection. The patient has been isolated in a specialized hospital for isolation. At present, his condition is stable. The patient’s sample is being tested to confirm the presence of monkeypox.

According to the report, the case is being managed as per established protocols and contact tracing is underway to identify the possible source and assess the impact within the country. The case is in line with the risk assessment done by the NCDC and there is no reason for any unnecessary concern.

Measures being taken to deal with monkeypox
The country is fully prepared to deal with such an isolated travel-related case and stringent measures have been taken to manage and minimize any potential risk. For which the central government has issued necessary guidelines to all the states. Also, the states have been asked to remain alert amid the challenge of corona virus.

Know how monkeypox spreads?
In the recent meeting of the Ministry of Health, it was revealed that monkeypox usually has an infection of 2-4 weeks and patients usually recover with supportive management. It occurs due to prolonged close contact with an infected person and usually through sexual contact, direct contact with body, wound fluids or using contaminated clothes, sheets of an infected person.

More than 99 thousand monkeypox cases from 116 countries – WHO
Let us tell you that, WHO had earlier declared monkeypox as PHEIC in July 2022. After which it was canceled in May 2023. As of 2022, globally, the WHO has reported 99,176 cases and 208 deaths due to monkeypox from 116 countries.
