New Delhi: Many big announcements were made in the Modi cabinet meeting held on Wednesday. On one hand, while the central employees were given the gift of 3 percent DA Hike, on the other hand, the government has also given a big Diwali gift to the farmers. Actually, the minimum support price i.e. MSP of Rabi season crops has been increased by the Center. In this, Rs 150 per quintal has been increased on wheat crop, and Rs 300 per quintal on mustard.
Increase in MSP on these crops
In the cabinet meeting, it has also been decided to increase the MSP of Rabi crops, which is also a big Diwali gift for the farmers. According to the report, for the marketing season 2025-26, the government has fixed new minimum support price i.e. MSP for Rabi crops. Under this, the MSP of wheat has been increased by Rs 150 per quintal to Rs 2,425, which was Rs 2,275 per quintal till now.
MSP of mustard has been increased by Rs 300 per quintal and it has increased from Rs 5,650 per quintal to Rs 5,950 per quintal. Similarly, it has been decided to increase the MSP of gram by Rs 210 per quintal and its new MSP has become Rs 5,650 per quintal, which was earlier Rs 5440 per quintal. Apart from this, the MSP of lentil has been increased by Rs 275 per quintal and it has increased from Rs 6,425 to Rs 6,700 per quintal. Safflower has been increased by Rs 140 and it has increased from Rs 5,800 to Rs 5,940.
What does MSP mean?
Here it is important to understand what exactly is MSP. So let us tell you that MSP is the minimum support price, which the government ensures to the farmers for their crops. In clear words, this is the price at which the government buys their crops from the farmers. Its purpose is to protect the farmers from losses due to fluctuations in the price of the crop.
Ashwini Vaishnav said – Committed to the welfare of farmers
Along with giving information about the decisions taken in the Modi cabinet, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav also mentioned the farmers sitting on the Punjab-Haryana border. He said that we are fully committed to the welfare of the farmers and we have taken many decisions that benefit the farmers. I hope that they will take a decision in view of what our government has done for the farmers.
This gift to Varanasi in the cabinet meeting
Along with the increase in DA of central employees and increase in MSP of crops for farmers, Varanasi has also been given a gift in the cabinet meeting. The central government has approved the proposal to build another rail cum road bridge over the river Ganga there. According to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, about Rs 2642 crore will be invested on this project.
