Modi government’s big decision, approved the opening of 85 Kendriya and 28 Navodaya Vidyalayas

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Friday approved the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro, the Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor, about 26 km long, to increase connectivity between the national capital Delhi and Haryana. Apart from this, the establishment of 85 Kendriya Vidyalayas and 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas in the country has also been approved in the cabinet meeting. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, ‘PM Shri’ has been brought to implement the new education policy. All Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas have been designated as ‘PM Shri’ schools to make them a model for other schools.’

The Cabinet has approved the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro, the Rithala-Kundli corridor. The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved the 26.463 km Rithala-Narela-Nathupur (Kundli) corridor of Phase IV of Delhi Metro. This corridor will further enhance connectivity between Delhi and Haryana. The corridor is targeted to be completed in 4 years from the date of approval.


The total cost of the project is Rs 6230 crore. This line will be an extension of the present Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda) – Rithala (Red Line) corridor and will boost connectivity in parts of North Western parts of Delhi like Narela, Bawana, Rohini. The entire route will consist of 21 stations and all stations will be elevated.

The Cabinet has approved the opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under Civil/Defence Sector across the country and expansion of one existing KV i.e. KV Shivamogga, Karnataka by adding 2 additional sections in all classes. The increase in the number of Central Government employees will be facilitated by adding two additional sections in all classes under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Scheme.

An estimated amount of Rs. 5872.08 crore (approx) will be required for setting up 85 new KVs and expansion of 1 existing KV. As on date, there are 1256 functional KVs, including 03 abroad – Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran. A total of 13.56 lakh (approx) students are studying in these Kendriya Vidyalayas. The Cabinet has also approved the setting up of 28 new Navodaya Vidyalayas in untouched districts of the country.
