Mumbai: For the Maharashtra assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party (SP) had decided to contest the elections in alliance with the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA). But now dissatisfaction is increasing among the SP leaders regarding the distribution of seats. SP’s Maharashtra state president Abu Azmi has expressed deep displeasure over the delay in the distribution of seats and warned that if the names of the candidates are not announced soon, he will announce 25 candidates and break away from the MVA.
Speaking at a press conference, Azmi made serious allegations against the MVA. He said that all the five candidates he has announced will definitely win the elections. He further said, “There is less time left for the elections and the party candidates are waiting for the announcement of the names so that they can start their election preparations.”
Azmi said, “I cannot wait like those who are talking about forming the government. They are not taking any decision but are delaying the ticket distribution. Only two days are left and it is sad that they are still not able to take a decision. This is a big mistake for the MVA.” He also expressed disappointment with Sharad Pawar and said that if he does not get an answer soon, he has 25 other candidates ready.
Taking a dig at the Congress as well, Azmi said that the party has betrayed him twice, which has increased his worries. He blamed the Congress’ delay in decision-making as the main reason for their defeat and said, “Congress loses because they are constantly going to Delhi and not taking decisions here.” It is clear from this attitude of the SP that it is not happy with the electoral equation of Maharashtra. Now it remains to be seen how the MVA deals with this crisis and whether it is able to maintain its relationship with the SP or not.
