Shinde’s Shiv Sena contested 81 seats and won 57 seats, while Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena won only 20 seats despite fielding candidates on 95 seats. The Shinde faction directly defeated the Shiv Sena on 36 seats.
Shinde’s big bet and electoral victory
Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray in June 2022 and formed an alliance with the BJP, also changed the party’s name and election symbol ‘arrow-bow’ to his side after becoming the Chief Minister. This rebellion divided the Shiv Sena into two factions, but in this election Shinde proved that the people of the state trust his leadership. While the Shinde faction won most of the seats, the Uddhav faction suffered a crushing defeat.
Shinde won the Kopri-Pachpakhadi seat in Thane district by a margin of 1.2 lakh votes. Minister Abdul Sattar defeated Suresh Bankar in Sillod seat, while Pradeep Jaiswal defeated Bala Saheb Thorat in Aurangabad Central. Shankar More of Shinde faction defeated Mahadev Ghatal of Shiv Sena (UBT) in Bhiwandi rural area of Thane district.
Uddhav faction’s crushing defeat

Sunil Prabhu defeated Sanjay Nirupam from Dindoshi, while Mahesh Sawant defeated Sada Sarwankar from Mahim and reached the Assembly. Sunil Raut defeated the Shiv Sena candidate from Vikhroli.
Maha Vikas Aghadi also suffered a crushing defeat

The Mahayuti alliance of BJP and Shinde’s Shiv Sena won a huge majority by winning 230 out of 288 seats. BJP won 132, Shinde faction won 57 and Ajit Pawar-led NCP won 41 seats.

What do the results of Maharashtra elections say?
The strong campaign and organizational base of the Mahayuti weakened the MVA, while the lack of coordination within the MVA and the lack of effective leadership also became the reason for the defeat. This election also made it clear that the people have voted for Shiv Sena (Shinde) considering it to be the real Shiv Sena. At the same time, Ajit Pawar’s strength has increased within the NCP, while Sharad Pawar’s influence seems to be decreasing. The performance of the Mahayuti proved the strong hold of the BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde).
This election has proved to be decisive in the politics of Maharashtra. This victory is a big achievement for Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, while Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar will have to reconsider their strategies. New equations can be seen in the politics of the state in the coming times.
These results have also expressed confidence in the Mahayuti in the politics of Maharashtra. Shinde has won a big victory in the ongoing debate on the legacy of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. These election results have completely changed the political equations in Maharashtra. After the massive majority of Mahayuti, the BJP and Shinde faction will have a strong hold in the state in the coming years, this time’s results have given a big and clear message.
