Maharashtra: 45 children fell ill after eating mid-day meal in Thane, treatment continues in hospital

Mumbai. 45 children fell ill due to food poisoning after eating mid-day meal at a private school in Thane, Maharashtra. All the children are aged eight to 11 years. On Tuesday, they were admitted to the hospital after suffering from headache, stomach ache and vomiting. A medical officer gave this information. He said that 38 children were admitted on Tuesday. Later, seven more children were brought to the hospital late at night. The children are currently under the supervision of a doctor. If they remain well, they will be discharged by Wednesday.

Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi said, all the children are out of danger and the treatment is having an effect on them. He confirmed that the children had eaten mid-day meal. Another medical officer said that rice and moth vegetable were served to the children in the meal. Food samples have been sent for testing. The families of the children are also present in the hospital.

According to the medical officers of the hospital, these children aged between eight and 11 years were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Kalwa city after complaining of dizziness, nausea, headache and stomach ache after lunch.

FDA collected samples
FDA officials have collected samples of the food served to the students. Officials said that it is not yet known whether the pot was stale or not. According to officials, initially five students complained of uneasiness and gradually their number increased. They said that the school administration called an ambulance and took the students to the hospital. The parents of the children are also present in the hospital.

38 children admitted to hospital
Aniruddha Malgaonkar, Dean of Kalwa Hospital, said, “The initial information was that 24 students were having stomach pain. We immediately sent ambulances, a total of 38 students have been admitted to the hospital. Food poisoning is suspected in the school food. The condition of all the students is stable. We will keep an eye on them for 24 hours.”
