Kolkata: Police erected iron wall on Howrah Bridge to prevent protest against CM Mamata

New Delhi. Students have announced a ‘Nabanna Campaign’ demonstration in Kolkata demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Nabanna Bhawan located in Howrah is the state secretariat. A large number of police forces are deployed in Kolkata for this demonstration. Every inch is being monitored. Howrah Bridge has been sealed. An iron wall has been erected on the bridge and it has been greased with Mobil so that no one can climb it.

‘Glimpse of Delhi’ seen

Kolkata Police has adopted the Delhi formula to stop the protesters. Just like an iron wall was erected to stop the protesters during the farmers’ movement in Delhi. In the same way, a wall has been erected to stop this demonstration in Kolkata.

Let us tell you that an organization named Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj has called this demonstration. BJP has also supported this protest. TMC has called this demonstration a conspiracy of BJP. Heavy police force is deployed on the streets of Kolkata. Drones are being monitored and officers have been instructed to remain alert. There is sporadic rain in the city but police force is deployed. CCTV is being monitored. Barricades have been installed at various places.

Howrah Bridge sealed

In view of the protest, Howrah Bridge of Kolkata has been sealed. No vehicle is allowed to come and go. A large number of policemen are deployed. Despite the rain, the Kolkata Police Commissioner is taking stock of the situation. This bridge has been sealed with an iron wall.

Know which students called the demonstration

This demonstration has been organized by students named Prabir Das, MA student of Rabindra Bharati University, Shubhankar Haldar of Kalyani University and Sayan Lahiri. These students say that they have nothing to do with politics but their demand is that Mamata Banerjee should resign from the post of CM.

Sayan Lahiri said that the protest started with a Facebook post. He said that we have 3 demands. Justice for Abhaya, death penalty for the culprit and resignation of Mamata Banerjee.

Three layer security outside Nabanna Bhavan

Kolkata Police said that more than 6000 policemen will be deployed in the city in view of the ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’. Barricades have been installed at a total of 19 points. 5 aluminum barricades have been built at different important places. There will be a 3-layer security cordon of Kolkata Police and Howrah City Police outside Nabanna Bhavan. Officials have been appealed to be more vigilant and monitor CCTV footage. Water cannons and Vajra vehicles have also been kept ready.

Details of demonstration sought

Kolkata Police has sent an email to the organizers of Nabanna Abhiyan seeking information about the leaders who will lead the rallies. Police has sought information from the organizers about how many people will gather, from where and how many rallies will be started, what will be the route etc. However, the police has not yet received any response from the organizer. Special arrangements will be made at College Square in Kolkata. The police has intelligence reports of a large number of people gathering there. According to Intel reports, the two biggest rallies will be held from College Square in Kolkata and Santragachhi in Kolkata.

UGC NET exam is also scheduled to be held on August 27. The exam is to be held in two shifts from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and then from 3 pm to 6 pm. Kolkata Police has said that adequate arrangements have been made so that no UGC NET candidate faces difficulty in reaching their exam centers.

TMC accuses the opposition

The ruling TMC has blamed the opposition for this demonstration. TMC says that the opposition wants to spread unrest in the state and has fueled this demonstration to spoil the atmosphere.
