CM Vijayan gave information
CM Pinarayi Vijayan wrote on a Facebook post, ‘The state is now setting up the country’s first senior citizens commission to strengthen the initiatives started during the tenure of the previous government. As a step in this direction, the Kerala Legislative Assembly passed the Kerala State Senior Citizens Commission Bill on Wednesday.’
He said that with the establishment of this commission, “we will be able to ensure rehabilitation, protection and welfare of senior citizens” in a more effective manner. This commission will work to provide necessary guidelines to deal with the difficulties faced by the elderly such as neglect, exploitation and loneliness.
Vijayan further said that this commission will not only become a driving force in enhancing the welfare of the elderly more effectively, but it will also ensure that they become active partners in building a ‘new Kerala’. The CM said that it is the responsibility of the state to protect the well-being of senior citizens, and the government is committed to fulfill this duty in the best possible way.
