ISKCON President Chinmoy Prabhu arrested in Bangladesh, was raising voice against attacks on Hindus

New Delhi: Amid reports of increasing atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, Chittagong ISKCON Pundarik Dham President Chinmoy Krishnan Das has been arrested. The ISKCON temple said that Chinmoy Prabhu was allegedly arrested from Dhaka airport by officials of the detective branch of Dhaka Police. Chinmoy Prabhu has been raising his voice against the atrocities on Hindus after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. On Friday itself, he addressed a huge protest rally in Rangpur.

Minority Hindus living there have been on target since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government due to the student movement in Bangladesh. Hindus and their religious places were targeted during the student movement. The ISKCON temple in Khulna, Meherpur, Bangladesh was also targeted. Regarding this attack, Chinmay Prabhu had expressed deep concern over the safety of Hindu temples. He had then said in a conversation with Aaj Tak, ‘Three temples in Chittagong are in danger, but the Hindu community, along with some people from the Muslim community, has saved them so far.’

He had claimed that the Hindu community is requesting the police and Rapid Action Battalion in Chittagong for help but there is no response from them. Chinmay Prabhu had said, ‘Many Hindus and other minorities are feeling unsafe and are fleeing to India via West Bengal and Tripura.’

The Hindus of Bangladesh have also protested several times by uniting against the atrocities. In October, thousands of Bangladeshi Hindus took to the streets in Chittagong demanding their rights and security. Thousands of Hindus participated in this demonstration under the banner of Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Manch and placed their 8 demands before the interim government of Prof. Mohammad Yunus. The protesting Hindus demanded that a speedy trial court be immediately formed for the atrocities being committed on the minorities and the culprits should be given severe punishment. He also demanded that the victims should get proper compensation and rehabilitation facilities.
