iPhone for 1 rupee! Government’s eye on such misleading advertisements, action may be taken

  • September 25, 2024

New Delhi: The festive season is going to start soon in India. E-commerce companies have started their preparations for this. This includes names like Flipkart, Amazon, which have announced their sales. Advertisements of many attractive offers are also seen in these sales. Somewhere there is an offer to give iPhone for one rupee, somewhere there is an offer on other expensive items at cheaper rates.

On seeing such advertisements, customers login to these e-commerce websites in large numbers. At the same time, many consumers are also filing complaints on social media calling such advertisements misleading. Now the government is also keeping an eye on the advertisements coming on e-commerce.

Secretary of the Union Consumer Ministry gave information
In response to a question asked by Aaj Tak on this matter, Secretary of the Union Consumer Ministry Nidhi Khare said, we have received such complaints. E-commerce companies are making unbelievable claims. When customers order, delivery charges are added wrongly and the discount is suddenly said to be over. We are keeping an eye on these complaints and we will take action on it.

This is how customers can complain
If customers see such misleading advertisements on e-commerce sites, they can register their complaint on the complaint portal of the Union Consumer Ministry.

    Many websites are doing this
There are many websites where expensive and attractive items are listed at low prices. Efforts are being made to sell the goods in different ways keeping in view the festive season. At some places, the focus is on EMI, due to which the main price is not visible in the beginning. Consumers get trapped by considering the EMI amount as a one-time payment. When they go to make the final payment, then they realize the whole matter.

Promising to sell iPhone for Rs 1
Some people have complained on social media that how e-commerce websites were promising to sell iPhone for Rs 1, but by the time they book, the product is declared sold out. Still, attempts are being made on many e-commerce websites to sell products by giving numbers like 1×99 rupees, on which the secretary of the government ministry has said that she will take action.
