Indian engineer arrested in Qatar, family appeals to PM Modi for help

New Delhi. Amit Gupta, an engineer from Gujarat, has been taken into custody in Qatar. Amit Gupta has been taken into custody in connection with the investigation of a criminal case. Sources said that the Indian Mission in Qatar is providing all possible assistance to the detained Indian citizen. The Indian Embassy has said that they will maintain contact with Amit’s family. Amit Gupta works in Tech Mahindra.

Qatar police arrested Amit Gupta on January 1 itself. His mother Pushpa Gupta informed the media about this. So far it is not known what are the charges against Amit Gupta and for what crime he has been arrested. Gupta’s family has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in this matter.

The family says that Amit Gupta has been framed in the data theft case. He is innocent. Amit Gupta’s mother Pushpa also went to Qatar and contacted the Indian Embassy. The ambassador has also consoled her. However, no major update has been received in this case so far. BJP MP Hemang Joshi told the media that Amit Gupta was working for Tech Mahindra in Qatar for the last 10 years.

The BJP MP said, his father had gone to Qatar to meet Amit Gupta. He stayed for a month but could not meet him. This is not the first time an Indian has been arrested in Qatar like this. In the year 2022, eight sailors were arrested. They were later sentenced to death. However, later the Qatar court itself released them on the orders of the Emir.
