Dhaka: There has been a continuous stir in Bangladesh since the coup. Three months after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took refuge from Bangladesh, her party Awami League is going to hold a massive protest against the current interim government in Dhaka today, in view of which the interim Yunus government has sent the army to the streets.
Meanwhile, the police have taken strict action against the workers and supporters of the Awami League in Dhaka. The Bangladesh Army has arrested hundreds of workers before their demonstration today. Party supporters and underground leaders will take to the streets in Gulistan, Zero Point, Noor Hussain Square areas of Dhaka. This protest has been organized by the Awami League to falsely implicate its leaders, ban the student wing and harass AL workers.
To prevent the gathering and protests of the Awami League, the Bangladesh Army, police and students of schools, colleges and universities have gathered in large numbers in these areas. The BNP and Jamaat had announced that they would not allow the Awami League to hold protests. The Dhaka police have not allowed them to hold a protest rally. Massive demonstrations are expected in Dhaka after 3 pm. 191 BGB contingents have been deployed across the country.
Meanwhile, various circles in the government have warned that the Awami League will not be allowed to hold protest marches. Interim government chief advisor press secretary Shafiqul Alam said on his verified Facebook page at 12:10 pm on Saturday, “The Awami League is currently a fascist party. There is no question of allowing this fascist party to hold any protest event in Bangladesh.”
The page further read, “The Awami League in its current form is a fascist party. Anyone who tries to hold rallies, meetings and processions on the orders of the genocidal and dictator Sheikh Hasina will have to face the full might of the law and security forces.”
Interim government advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan wrote on Facebook in this regard, “If any of the mass killers and banned organizations try to organize the program, strict action will be taken by the law and order enforcement forces.”
