New Delhi. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday hit back at the Congress for questioning the electoral process, including the authenticity of EVMs, saying that its chief ministers and other elected representatives like Rahul Gandhi should resign and declare that they will contest elections only after the ballot papers are brought back.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia told reporters that such a stand would reflect their belief in the issues being raised by them. Otherwise their allegations would be nothing but empty words. He said that the Congress should also approach the courts on this issue. He stressed that the Supreme Court has several times supported the transparency of the electoral process and the authenticity of electoral voting machines.
‘Priyanka Gandhi took oath on the same day Kharge raised questions’
Gaurav Bhatia said that Congress Chief Ministers Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should resign as they were elected through the same electoral process which the opposition party is questioning. He said it was ironic that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge raised questions on EVMs on the day Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took oath as a Lok Sabha MP.
‘Congress MPs and chief ministers should resign’
The BJP spokesperson said that VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) has a 100 per cent record in matching the votes cast on EVMs. He said, ‘You want elections on ballot paper. First of all, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Revanth Reddy and Siddaramaiah should resign. They should say that they were elected through EVMs, which are full of scams, and that they will not participate in the electoral process until ballot paper is implemented.’
‘Congress will be confined to the pages of history’
He said, ‘Congress will soon be confined to the pages of history books.’ Speaking on the incidents targeting Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, the BJP spokesperson expressed confidence in the Indian government’s stance that India’s strong voice cannot be ignored. Gaurav Bhatia claimed that as the world’s largest democracy, it is India’s duty to raise its voice when minorities are facing persecution anywhere.
