Mumbai: There is still a state of political confusion in Maharashtra. No decision has been taken yet regarding the post of Chief Minister. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has resigned from his post. Shinde met Governor CP Radhakrishnan along with Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar and submitted his resignation and that of his cabinet. The Governor told Shinde to remain in his post until alternative arrangements are made, so that Shinde will continue to perform his responsibilities as the acting Chief Minister.
On Shinde’s resignation, Shiv Sena MLA Deepak Keskar said that this is only a formality and the decision on the new Chief Minister will be taken in New Delhi. The demand for Shinde to become the Chief Minister again has started gaining momentum in the Shiv Sena, but Shinde appealed to the party workers not to gather at the Chief Minister’s official residence ‘Varsha’ and not to demonstrate in his support.
Shinde wrote in a post on social media platform ‘X’, “After the big victory of Mahayuti, our government will be formed again in the state. We fought the elections together as Mahayuti and are united even today. Some groups who love me have urged them to come together and come to Mumbai. I am grateful for your love, but I appeal that no one should gather in my support in this way. My humble appeal to Shiv Sena workers is not to gather in Varsha or anywhere else. Mahayuti is strong and will continue to be together for the prosperity of Maharashtra.”
Meanwhile, a senior Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam said on Tuesday that Ajit Pawar’s joining the NCP has reduced Shiv Sena’s bargaining power over the chief minister’s post. Kadam said that the NCP has made it clear that they are ready to make BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis the chief minister. He said, “We believe that Eknath Shinde should become the Chief Minister. But BJP wants to make Devendra Fadnavis the Chief Minister. Ajit Pawar has surrendered and reduced our bargaining power. However, there will be no dispute in the Mahayuti. We fought the elections under Shinde’s leadership and achieved great success.”
He also said, “People have given a big mandate to the Mahayuti. We are united and will accept whatever decision is taken in New Delhi. PM Modi and Amit Shah expressed faith in Shinde and fought the elections. We will unite and take Maharashtra forward on the path of development. Before the elections, Amit Shah had said that the three parties will decide together. Nothing else was said.”
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar was elected the leader of the NCP Legislative Party on Sunday. According to sources, regarding the post of Chief Minister, the party has expressed the view that in view of the results of the assembly elections, it would be appropriate to hand over the responsibility of leading the state to Devendra Fadnavis. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske had said on Monday that Shinde should be declared the Chief Minister by the NDA top leadership following the ‘Bihar model’.
