New Delhi: Industrialist Gautam Adani’s troubles seem to be increasing once again. After struggling and recovering from the allegations of the report of US short selling firm Hindenburg Research for almost 2 years, now a case has been registered against his company in America. After this, a big blow has fallen on him and Kenya’s President William Ruto has canceled a big deal with Adani Group.
Adani Group had given a proposal to the government there to take over the operation of Kenya’s main airport. Kenya’s President William Ruto has canceled it on 21 November. Apart from this, he has also given instructions to cancel a big energy deal. Adani Group was also going to do a big deal with Kenya’s Energy Ministry, the possibility of which being canceled has now increased. Adani Group was going to build power transmission lines in Kenya in a deal worth $736 million (about Rs 6,215 crore), which has now been ordered to be cancelled.
According to Reuters, President William Ruto has said, “I have instructed the agencies working under the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to immediately cancel any kind of purchase.” In his address to the nation, he has said that the government has taken this decision in view of the new information revealed by the allied countries and investigative agencies.
Adani Group company Adani Energy Solutions signed a public-private deal with Kenya Electrical Transmission Company in October this year. This deal was signed for 30 years. A Kenyan court suspended this deal in October itself and ordered an investigation.
The US prosecutor has accused Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani as well as other officials of his group of paying bribes for solar energy contracts. This bribe was given to Indian government officials and its value is around $ 250 million (about Rs 2110 crore). A case has been registered in a US court regarding these allegations. Adani Group is accused of giving this bribe to get big solar energy contracts between 2020 and 2024. Due to these deals, Adani Group was expected to gain more than $ 2 billion.
The Adani Group has denied the allegations made by the US prosecutor. The group has cited that the US Justice Department itself has said that the allegations leveled in the case are just allegations right now. Until proven guilty, they will be considered innocent. Adani Group has said that it will take all legal options regarding this matter.
