Former DIG of Bhopal Jail’s property worth Rs 4.68 crore attached

Bhopal: Assets worth a few crores of rupees have been attached in the money laundering case related to alleged disproportionate assets against former DIG of Bhopal Jail, late Umesh Kumar Gandhi. On Saturday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issued a statement giving this information. The Enforcement Directorate has issued a provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), in which this action has been taken in the name of DIG Umesh Kumar Gandhi, his family members and associates.

The total value of the attached properties is Rs 4.68 crore, which includes 20 immovable properties located in various districts of the state like Sagar, Katni, Sehore, Bhopal and Indore. Apart from this, it also includes bank deposits, jewellery, insurance policies, mutual funds and current assets like ‘Kisan Vikas Patra’.

The money laundering case was registered in an FIR and two chargesheets filed by the Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta (Special Police Establishment) against Gandhi, his wife Archana Gandhi and former Sehore district jail guard Ajay Kumar Gandhi. Gandhi is accused of “amassing disproportionate assets” worth Rs 5.13 crore.
