After this incident, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev cut short his visit to Russia. He left from St. Petersburg. He said that according to the information I have received, the plane changed its route between Baku and Grozny due to bad weather.

It is being told that there were 67 passengers on board the plane, out of which 42 passengers died, and 25 passengers survived. The passengers on board the plane included 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russian citizens, 6 Kazakh citizens and 3 Kyrgyz citizens. There were five crew members in the plane, who died, including both the pilots.
