New Delhi. The next President of America, Donald Trump, has threatened to impose reciprocal tax on India. Meaning that if India imposes as much tax on American products, Trump is now talking about imposing the same tax on Indian products. He has reiterated his intention to impose reciprocal tariff in response to the “high tariff” imposed by India on the import of some American products.
Donald Trump was talking to the media when he said, “Reciprocal. If they tax us, we will also tax them the same. They tax us. We will tax them.” He said, “They tax us, in almost all cases, they are taxing us, and we are not taxing them.”
The next US President Trump made the comment while answering a question on a possible trade agreement with China. Trump said that India and Brazil are among the countries that impose high tariffs on some American products.
The word reciprocal is important because if someone is charging us – India, we don’t need to talk about ourselves – if India charges us 100 percent, should we not charge them anything? They send us bicycles and we also send them bicycles. They charge us 100-200,” Trump said.
Trump further said, “India charges too much. Brazil charges too much. If they want to charge us, that’s fine, but we are going to charge them the same amount.” Trump’s Commerce Secretary has given his stamp on his words. He says that whoever does what, he will be treated accordingly.
America’s next Commerce Minister’s stamp on Trump’s words
Donald Trump’s Commerce Secretary, or in simple words, the next Commerce Minister of America, chosen by Trump, Howard Lutnick, said that “reciprocity” will be an important topic in the Trump administration. In simple words, if Country-1 is imposing a tax on Country-2, Country-2 can also impose tax on Country-1 according to that. How much tax to impose in return depends on Country-2. For example, Lutnick says, “You should expect to receive the same treatment as you treat us.”
