New Delhi. US President Donald Trump has indicated to give relief to India in his new tariff policy. According to CNN report, Trump is negotiating trade agreements with representatives of India, Israel and Vietnam. These talks are taking place before an important deadline. If his talks with these three countries are successful, then relief can be given before the new system comes into force. If this does not happen, then new duties will be imposed on goods imported from these countries.
According to CNN report, Trump is negotiating bilateral trade agreements that can prevent the implementation of the proposed tariffs. Trump’s talks have started with a small group of countries. However, China and Canada have already announced that they will retaliate.
President Trump’s son Eric Trump posted on social media, “I don’t want any country to be the last country to try to negotiate with Donald Trump. The first one to negotiate will win. The last one will definitely lose. I’ve seen this movie all my life.”
Meanwhile, Trump himself confirmed that he is open to dialogue with trading partners. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, he said, “Every country has called us. That’s the beauty of our strategy, we put ourselves in the driver’s seat. As long as they are giving us something good.”
He cited TikTok as an example, saying, “We have a situation in the case of TikTok. Where China will probably say, ‘We will approve a deal, but will you do something on the tariffs?’ Tariffs give us tremendous negotiating power. They have always given us this power.”
Let us tell you that on April 2, US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of new tariffs on several countries including India, Vietnam and Israel. From April 9, India will face a 26% duty on its exports to the US, a 46% duty on Vietnam, and a 17% duty on Israel.
