Kathmandu: Hundreds of leaders and workers of the pro-monarchy Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) in Nepal again demonstrated vigorously on Sunday demanding the restoration of the monarchy and declaring the country a Hindu nation. During this, the agitators surrounded the Prime Minister’s residence and the Parliament House and protested fiercely by raising anti-government slogans. The protesters held this protest in restricted areas despite the presence of heavy police force.
Around 1,500 protesters gathered in Bijuli Bazar-Baneshwar area and raised slogans like “Down with the Republic”, “We want monarchy”, “Down with the corrupt government” and “Declare Nepal a Hindu nation”. They also had banners and posters with these slogans in their hands. The demonstration was led by many leaders including RPP President Rajendra Lingden, senior leader Pashupati Shamsher Rana and former Inspector General of Police of Nepal Dhruv Bahadur Pradhan. Thousands of riot control police personnel were deployed in Naya Baneshwor, Bijuli Bazar, Maitighar, Bhadrakali and Baluwatar areas of Kathmandu after protesters declared that they would violate prohibitory orders and enter restricted areas.
Earlier on Sunday morning, thousands of school teachers from across the country demonstrated in Naya Baneshwor area of Kathmandu. They demanded reforms in the education sector and increase in salaries and allowances. Pro-monarchy protesters gathered at three different places in Kathmandu and tried to break through the police security cordon and enter restricted areas.
Hundreds of protesters demonstrated in Bhadrakali area, where the Secretariat building and the Prime Minister’s Office are located. Another group was demonstrating in front of the Parliament building. The RPP announced that it would continue its indefinite agitation over its demands, which aims to re-establish monarchy in the country.
