Cyclone Dana takes a fierce form after landfall, 10 lakh people evacuated, heavy storm and rain in many areas of Odisha-Bengal

New Delhi. Cyclone Dana hit the coast of Odisha late last night. According to the Meteorological Department, the landfall of Dana cyclone is still going on. The cyclone passed near Dhamra and Bhitarkanika in Odisha at a speed of 120 kmph. Due to the cyclone, heavy rains are occurring in many areas of Odisha and Bengal. There are reports of trees falling at many places due to strong winds. Many NDRF teams are on alert in Odisha and Bengal regarding the cyclone. Bhubaneswar and Kolkata airports have been closed till 9 am.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi monitored the situation from the State Emergency Control Room in Bhubaneswar before Cyclone Dana hit the state coast in the Bay of Bengal. He said that the state ministers and officials are assessing the situation at the ground level and ensuring all arrangements.


Schools and colleges closed
In view of the possible impact of cyclone Dana in Odisha and West Bengal, schools and other educational institutions have been instructed to remain closed on Friday. Educational institutions have also been ordered to remain closed in some parts of Jharkhand.

1600 pregnant women gave birth to children in relief camps
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Thursday that out of 4,431 pregnant women shifted to health centers due to cyclone Dana, 1,600 have given birth to children. He said that a total of 5,84,888 people have been evacuated from the danger zone in the state. This number may increase further. Majhi said, “These people are living in 6,008 cyclone shelters, where they are being provided food, medicine, water and other essential items.

About 10 lakh people evacuated
About 5.84 lakh people have been shifted so far as a precautionary measure to prevent loss of life and property after Cyclone Dana in Odisha. At the same time, more than 3.5 lakh people have been identified for evacuation from low-lying areas in West Bengal.
