    Curfew in Manipur’s 5 districts, houses of 3 ministers 6 MLAs attacked, house of Chief Minister’s son-in-law burnt

    New Delhi. The situation in Manipur is again getting out of control. Violence erupted in the state just hours after the bodies of 6 missing persons were found from a river in Jiribam district. Protesters attacked the houses of three ministers and six MLAs on Saturday. After this, the state government imposed curfew in five districts and suspended internet services in some parts. Officials said that the situation in the state is worsening.

    CM’s son-in-law’s house also attacked
    Protesters vandalized the houses of three MLAs, including the house of Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s son-in-law. The violent mob set fire to the houses of the MLAs. In response, the security forces used tear gas shells to disperse the protesters.


    6 bodies were found in the river…
    Actually, the bodies of two women and a child, missing since Monday, were recovered from the Barak river in Jiribam on Saturday, while three other bodies, including a woman and two children, were found on Friday night. These bodies have been sent to Silchar Medical College Hospital in Assam for postmortem.

    These ministers’ houses were attacked
    The ministers whose houses were targeted by the protesters include the residences of Health and Family Welfare Minister Sapam Ranjan, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister L Susindro Singh, and Urban Development Minister Y Khemchand. In view of the escalating violence, the state government has imposed curfew in Imphal East and West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kuching districts.

    Minister offered to resign
    The protesters attacked the house of Health Minister Sapam Ranjan, which is located in Lampel Sankeithel in Imphal West district. Police said that Sapam told the protesters that he would raise the matter of six murders in the cabinet meeting and if the government does not respect the sentiment of the public, he is ready to resign.

    The protesters also attacked the house of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister L Susindro Singh in Imphal East district, after which security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shells.

    The house of Urban Development Minister Y Khemchand in Singjamai area of ​​Imphal West district was also targeted by the protesters. According to police, the house of BJP MLA RK Emo, who is the son-in-law of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, was also surrounded by protesters. The protesters vandalised the MLA’s house and set his property on fire.

    Additionally, the houses of BJP MLA Sapam Kunjkesore and MLA Joykishan Singh were also damaged by the protesters. Officials said a vehicle was set on fire outside the house of MLA Sapam Kunjkesore.

    Protesters were moving towards the secretariat
    Protesters burnt tyres on the road in Thangmeiband area near the MPL assembly building. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters near Keishampat bridge, who were moving towards the Raj Bhavan and the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

    State Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi ordered the suspension of internet and mobile data services for two days in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kutching, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts. The Coordination Committee of Human Rights Organizations (COCOMI) demanded military action within 24 hours against the militants in Manipur. COCOMI spokesperson K Athoba has demanded the immediate repeal of the recently re-implemented Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

    6 people were kidnapped
    Let us tell you that a few days ago, in a major operation in Manipur, security forces killed at least 11 armed Kuki militants who had come to attack a police station at Borobekera in Jiribam district. On November 11, at 3:30 pm, Kuki militants attacked the CRPF camp at Borobekera in Jiribam. The CRPF also retaliated and at least 11 Kuki militants were killed in the encounter.

    After this attack, three women and three children went missing. It was said that these six members were kidnapped by Kuki militants in Jiribam. Now the bodies of three of these kidnapped people have been found in Jirimukh.

    How did the violence start in Manipur?
    The violence in Manipur started on May 3 last year, when arson and vandalism took place during the demonstration of the Kuki-Jho tribe community against an order of the Manipur High Court. Actually, the Meitei community had filed a petition in the Manipur High Court with the demand that they be given the status of tribe.

    The Meitei community argued that Manipur merged with India in 1949. Before that they had got the status of tribe. After the hearing on the petition was completed, the Manipur High Court recommended to the state government that the Meitei community should be considered for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST).
