CM Siddaramaiah’s troubles increase, ED registers case

New Delhi: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s troubles may increase in the MUDA case. ED has registered a case under PMLA. Last week, Karnataka Lokayukta registered a case against Karnataka CM and others under fraud and other sections. Special court also ordered to register a case against Karnataka CM.

The state Chief Minister is accused of giving 14 housing sites to his wife in 2011 by Mysore Urban Development Authority by allegedly flouting all the rules. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah got a big shock last week when the High Court rejected his petition in which he had challenged the Governor’s decision to prosecute. With the dismissal of the petition, the way to prosecute him was cleared. However, he still has the option to go to the Supreme Court.

Opposition party BJP called the decision of Karnataka High Court historic and said that the Chief Minister had committed a mistake. He should resign from the post of CM. He wants to avoid investigation, so he challenged the decision of the Governor in the High Court. BJP has termed the MUDA case as a scam.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who reached Bengaluru last week on the allegations of the opposition, said that the law will do its work. MUDA people can take whatever action they want. It is not necessary that the government responds to it because it is an autonomous body. They can take action. The Congress President said that if Siddaramaiah has personally committed any crime then he is responsible, but he has not done anything like that. The main objective of BJP is to defame the Congress party. This is not right. There is no question of his resigning from the post.

Amid the MUDA case controversy, the Karnataka government has recently withdrawn the general consent given to the CBI for investigation in the state. The government has said that the agency was working in a biased manner. After the government’s decision, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil had said that it was clear that the CBI or the Central government were not using their resources judiciously.
