New Delhi. China has defended the plan of the world’s largest dam project on the Brahmaputra river in Tibet, calling it safe. China claims that the project will not have any negative impact on the lower regions and it is being built safely after several decades of research.
Despite international concerns, China has approved the world’s largest dam project on the Brahmaputra river in Tibet. China will spend $137 billion on this project, which is located in the earthquake-prone Himalayan region. However, many countries have expressed their concern over this project.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that China has always taken responsibility for the development of cross-border rivers. He said that hydropower development in Tibet has been approved after decades of in-depth study. He said that all security measures have been implemented for this. He said that this project will not have any impact on the lower region.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao said that China is ready to continue dialogue with the bordering countries. He also assured that China will promote cooperation in earthquake and disaster management with the countries situated on the banks of the lower rivers, so that the people living on the banks of the river can benefit.
Dam will be built on Brahmaputra River
There is a fear of increasing border dispute with India and Bangladesh due to this project of China, because the dam will be built in the lower part of Brahmaputra River in Tibet (in Tibet this river is called Yarlang Zangbo River). This world’s largest dam will be built in the part from where Brahmaputra flows in Arunachal Pradesh with a U-turn.
The Chinese spokesperson has presented the project as an attempt to develop clean energy and stop climate change. This project will cost one trillion yuan in Chinese currency. This dam will be bigger than the “Three Georges Dam”.
