Central government approves transfer of Justice Yashwant Verma

    New Delhi: The central government has approved the transfer of Justice Yashwant Verma on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. Now he will go from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court, which is his original jurisdiction. This decision was taken amid a controversy, in which there was news of a large amount of cash being found after a fire broke out in his official residence.

    Now he will take charge as a judge in Allahabad High Court. Along with this, another judge of Delhi High Court, Justice Chandradhari Singh has also been transferred to Allahabad High Court.


    Let us tell you that Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjeev Khanna had initiated a three-member internal inquiry against Justice Yashwant Verma on March 22 to investigate the case of finding cash. It is alleged that bundles of currency notes were found from Justice Verma’s official residential complex, where a fire broke out on March 14. These bundles of notes were seen in the store room by the fire brigade team that extinguished the fire. A lot of notes were burnt due to the fire.

    The three-member panel constituted by the Supreme Court for internal investigation into the cash scandal case involving Justice Yashwant Verma includes – Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Anu Sivaraman of Karnataka High Court. This investigation is different from the impeachment process under the Constitution.

    56-year-old Justice Yashwant Verma registered as an advocate in 1992. He was appointed as an additional judge of Allahabad High Court on 13 October 2014 and was sworn in as a permanent judge on 1 February 2016. He was born on 6 January 1969 in Allahabad. He did B.Com (Hons) from Hansraj College of Delhi University and then obtained LLB degree from Rewa University of Madhya Pradesh.

    He practiced in Allahabad High Court on constitutional, labor and industrial laws as well as corporate law, taxation and related laws. He was also the special counsel of the High Court from 2006 and the chief standing counsel of the Uttar Pradesh government from 2012 to 2013. He was designated as a senior advocate in 2013.
