Budhni: The picture of the by-elections held in two assembly constituencies of Madhya Pradesh has become clear. Congress has won in Vijaypur while Budhni has given victory to BJP. In Budhni assembly constituency, the stronghold of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, BJP’s victory was being predicted from the very beginning. We are telling you the five reasons, which made BJP’s victory certain. In Budhni by-election, BJP’s Ramakant Bhargava has won by 13901 votes. Defeated Rajkumar Patel of Congress.
Budhni is the home constituency of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. His long political tenure and local connections paved the way for victory for the BJP. Shivraj’s personal popularity, his active participation in development schemes and his “mama” image influenced the voters.
The BJP made the development of infrastructure in the area, repair of roads, irrigation schemes and ongoing schemes for farmers the basis of its victory. The schemes run by the government in the past years, such as the Chief Minister Kisan Kalyan Yojana and the Rural Development Program, further strengthened the confidence of the voters.
The BJP’s ground organization was fully active in this election. Strong booth management, effective election campaign and use of social media were part of the BJP’s strategy. Workers went door-to-door to mobilize voters in favor of the party. Congress’ performance in this by-election was weaker than expected. The party failed to present a strong candidate and solid strategy. Internal factionalism and Congress’ lack of grip on local issues gave the BJP a decisive lead.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan himself comes from the OBC category, which is part of the major voter class of Budhni. Apart from this, BJP won the confidence of rural voters by focusing on schemes providing relief to farmers and agriculture-based issues. This victory of BJP in the Budhni by-election is a result of Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s popularity and the acceptance of his government’s schemes. The election result proved that the organizational structure of BJP and Shivraj’s personal influence still play an important role in the politics of Madhya Pradesh.
