Big revelation in Jhansi Medical College accident: Nurse lit a matchstick and fire broke out in the ward

Jhansi. 10 children have died a painful death in a fire that broke out late Friday night in the child ward of the medical college in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. During this, 16 children were seriously injured. Earlier it was being said that the fire broke out due to short circuit but now a different news is coming out. An eyewitness to the Jhansi fire incident says that a nurse lit a matchstick to connect the pipe of the oxygen cylinder and as soon as the matchstick was lit, the entire ward caught fire.

According to the Chief Medical Superintendent of Jhansi, 54 children were admitted in the NICU ward, suddenly the oxygen concentrator caught fire due to which the fire spread in the NICU ward filled with oxygen. The DIG of Jhansi Division said that the fire has been completely controlled and the work of shifting the injured is going on. CM Yogi has taken cognizance of the incident and has given instructions to submit the report within 12 hours.

Eyewitness’s account
Hamirpur resident Bhagwan Das is one of those whose son was admitted in Jhansi’s Rani Laxmibai Medical College. When the fire broke out yesterday, Bhagwan Das was present in the ward. On the basis of initial investigation, short circuit may be the reason, but Bhagwan Das is the only eyewitness of this incident and he is telling the real reason behind it.

According to Bhagwan Das, the nurse lit a matchstick to fix the pipe of an oxygen cylinder in the children’s ward. As soon as the matchstick was lit, the entire ward caught fire. As soon as the fire broke out, Bhagwan Das saved 3 to 4 children by wrapping them with the cloth around his neck, with the help of other people, some more children were also saved.

The fire extinguisher cylinder had expired
The surprising thing was that after the fire broke out, neither the fire alarm rang nor the cylinders kept in the ward were of any use. The cylinder has a filling date of 2019 and the expiry date is 2020. That is, the fire extinguisher had expired years ago and these cylinders were kept here to show them empty.

UP government will give help of Rs 5 lakh
The Yogi government of UP has announced financial help of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased and the injured will be given an assistance amount of Rs 50,000. At the same time, Prime Minister Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the families of each person killed in the fire incident at Jhansi Medical College and the injured will be given Rs 50,000.

NICU ward turned into ashes
Pictures of the ward in which the children were kept have also surfaced. The machines to keep the children have been completely burnt to ashes. The entire ward has been destroyed. The lights are cut off. 10 newborn babies died while 17 children were injured in a massive fire at Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi on Friday. The injured have been admitted to other hospitals for better treatment. At the time of the accident, about 54 children were admitted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (SNCU Ward).

Deployment of senior officers
In view of the seriousness of the incident, ADG Zone Kanpur Alok Singh has left for Jhansi. Also, DIG Jhansi Range and Jhansi Divisional Commissioner have been directed to conduct a detailed investigation of the matter and submit a report. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the incident and has summoned a detailed report of the case by Saturday evening. He has given instructions to speed up relief and rescue operations and has ordered to provide the best medical facilities to the injured.
