Bangladesh is going to do this work after the visit of Indian Foreign Secretary

  • December 13, 2024

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing tension between India and Bangladesh, both the countries seem to be moving forward in improving relations. Recently, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Bangladesh and now there is news that a delegation from Bangladesh is coming to India. Indian Army sources said on Thursday that a delegation from Bangladesh is likely to come to Kolkata on the occasion of Vijay Diwas on December 16.

This delegation can participate in the Vijay Diwas program of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command Headquarters, Kolkata. In 1971, India defeated the Pakistani Army, resulting in the creation of Bangladesh. India’s victory over Pakistan is celebrated every year on December 16. Military sources told ‘The Hindu’ that the Bangladesh delegation will also include ‘Muktiyodha’ who fought against Pakistan in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Earlier, there were speculations that in view of the tension in India-Bangladesh relations, no delegation from Bangladesh would participate in this year’s Vijay Diwas.

    Foreign Secretary had visited Dhaka
The news of the Bangladeshi delegation’s visit to India is coming at a time when India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had visited Bangladesh earlier this week. During this visit, Misri had met the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus. He also met Bangladesh’s Foreign Advisor Tauheed Hussain and Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jashim Uddin.

Misri’s visit to Bangladesh came two weeks after the arrest of Hindu priest Chinmay Prabhu Das associated with ISKCON. Tensions between India and Bangladesh had increased over Das’ arrest. India had expressed concern over the arrest and called for the safety of minorities. In early August, Misri had visited Bangladesh in the first high-level visit from India after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.

Bangladesh objects to Sheikh Hasina’s statements
Sheikh Hasina, who is living in India, is criticizing the interim government of Bangladesh’s Mohammad Yunus by releasing videos, to which Bangladesh has objected. Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jasim Uddin said in a press conference after meeting Foreign Secretary Misri, who was on a visit to Dhaka, that the Indian government has been asked to tell Sheikh Hasina that the Bangladesh government does not like her giving speeches in India.

Jasim Uddin had said, ‘We have drawn India’s attention to the speech being given by the former Prime Minister in India. Sheikh Hasina is giving speeches while staying in India, which the government does not like. Her presence will not affect the relations between the two countries. We have said that we did not like the speech that Sheikh Hasina is giving while sitting in India…. This should be told to her (Sheikh Hasina). Vikram Misri has taken notice of this matter.’
