New Delhi: As soon as Bashar al-Assad was overthrown in Syria on Sunday, Israel got an edge in the region and started air strikes on Syria. It has captured some land in Syria near Golan Heights. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iraq have strongly condemned this move of Israel. Saudi Arabia has said that Israel is constantly violating international laws.
On Monday, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry criticized Israel’s capture of the buffer zone in Syrian territory and said that ‘Israel is constantly violating the rules of international law and this shows that it is determined to obstruct the restoration of Syria’s security, stability and territorial integrity.’ The Saudi Foreign Ministry called on the international community to condemn the Israeli action and said that Golan Heights is an occupied Arab territory.
Qatar – Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has also issued a statement on the Israeli action. In a statement issued on Monday, Qatar said that it considers the Israeli incursion as ‘a dangerous development, a blatant attack on Syria’s sovereignty and integrity and a gross violation of international law’. The statement said, ‘Israel’s policy of occupying Syrian territories will lead the region towards more violence and tension.’
Iraq – Iraq has also criticized Israel’s move, saying that it is a ‘serious violation of international law’. A statement from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said, ‘Iraq insists on maintaining Syria’s sovereignty and integrity. We call on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibility and condemn this invasion, to stop it.’
