New Delhi: Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has turned down Neeraj Chopra’s invitation. Neeraj had invited him to participate in the NC Classic javelin throw tournament on May 24 in Bengaluru. Arshad Nadeem said that he will be busy preparing for the Asian Athletics Championship during this time. Arshad’s statement came after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Arshad Nadeem said, ‘The NC Classic event is on May 24, while I will leave for Korea on May 22 for the Asian Athletics Championship.’ He said that he is working hard for the Asian Championship to be held in Korea from May 27 to 31.
Neeraj Chopra said in a virtual conversation with the media on Monday, ‘I have sent an invitation to Arshad and he said that he will respond after talking to his coach. He has not confirmed his participation yet.’
Nadeem won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a record throw of 92.97 meters, while Chopra won the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters. Stars like Anderson Peters of Grenada and Thomas Roller of Germany are participating in the first Neeraj Chopra Javelin Throw competition.
The first stage of the Neeraj Chopra Classic Javelin Throw event will be held in Bengaluru instead of Panchkula on May 24 due to lack of adequate light. The event will be jointly organized by Chopra and JSW Sports in collaboration with the Athletics Federation of India and World Athletics.
