An old rule banned during Corona may return to IPL, waiting for the approval of the captains

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India may lift the ban on applying saliva on the ball in this season of the Indian Premier League starting on March 22. This proposal has been discussed in detail in the BCCI and it will be placed before the captains of all the IPL teams on Thursday in Mumbai.

The International Cricket Council had banned the age-old practice of applying saliva on the ball to shine it as a precaution during the Corona epidemic. The ICC made this ban permanent in 2022. The IPL also included this ban in the conditions of play after the Corona epidemic, but the IPL guidelines are beyond the jurisdiction of the ICC.

A top BCCI official told PTI, ‘It was common to apply saliva on the ball before Corona. Now that there is no threat of corona, there is no harm in lifting the ban on applying saliva on the ball in IPL. He said, ‘We understand that it has a huge impact on red ball cricket and in the white ball format as well, it helps the bowlers a bit. It should be allowed in IPL. Let’s see what the captain decides.

During the ICC Champions Trophy, India’s experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami had said that there is a need to apply saliva on the ball or else it will be completely in favor of the batsmen. South Africa’s Vernon Philander and New Zealand’s Tim Southee also supported it. IPL tournament will run for 65 days This tournament will be played for 65 days and there will be a total of 74 matches in it.

The IPL 2024 title was won by Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad. By the way, the teams that have won the IPL title include Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The IPL 2025 season will start on March 22, while the final match will be held on May 25. This time the playoff matches of the tournament will be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata. Qualifier-2 and the final match will also be held on this ground. While Qualifier-1 and Eliminator matches will be held in Hyderabad.
