New Delhi: The Health Department of Jammu and Kashmir has become alert about the HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) virus. After seven cases of HMPV infection in children were reported in India, a special isolation ward has been prepared in the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu. So far, two cases have been reported in Bengaluru, Nagpur and Tamil Nadu and one in Ahmedabad.
The administration has built a 31-bed isolation ward in GMC Jammu. The nurses of the hospital said that all the necessary facilities are available in the ward and full preparations have been made to deal with any emergency. However, no case of HMPV virus has been reported in Jammu and Kashmir so far.
The Health Department has told people that there is no need to panic. The hospital administration has ensured that all measures have been taken for the treatment and isolation of potential patients. Experts believe that the HMPV virus can affect children and individuals with weak immunity more, but it can be controlled with proper preparation and care.
In view of the increasing cases of HMPV infection across the country, Jammu and Kashmir has increased vigilance. The initial symptoms of infection can be cold, cough and fever, which can turn into serious respiratory problems if not treated on time. The Health Department has appealed to the general public to contact the doctor immediately if any symptoms appear.
Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a seasonal virus, it mainly affects the respiratory system. Its symptoms are like cold and flu. Recently this virus has spread rapidly in China and now its cases are coming to light in India as well. Experts say that HMPV infection can be more dangerous for children and the elderly.
The HMPV virus affects young children, the elderly and people with weak immunity more. This virus can be more risky for people who have chronic diseases like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease. Due to weak immunity, this virus rapidly attacks the respiratory system, which can cause difficulty in breathing.
