New Delhi. The Government of Pakistan has done such a thing, which is being praised. For the first time in 50 years, the Government of Pakistan has issued more than 6,700 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims for the Baisakhi festival on April 14. Under the Pakistan-India Religious Protocol Agreement 1974, 3,000 Sikh pilgrims are allowed to visit Pakistan for any religious festival.
6,751 visas issued
However, the government has issued 6,751 visas. 3,751 additional visas have been given on the special request of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Evacuee Trust Property Board of Pakistan. ETPB Additional Secretary Saifullah Khokhar gave this information to PTI.
Sikh pilgrims from India will reach here via Wagah border on April 10 to commemorate the Sikh New Year and the establishment of Khalsa. Khokhar said this is the first time in more than 50 years that the Pakistan government has issued additional visas to Sikh pilgrims instead of the visas agreed between the two countries.
Saifullah Khokhar said, “The main celebration of Baisakhi festival will be held on April 14 at Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib under the aegis of ETPB. Pakistan is like a second home for Sikhs. We are fully prepared to give a warm welcome to all the visiting guests.”
The gurdwara is being decorated
Earlier, the main celebration of Baisakhi was held at Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal. Saifullah Khokhar said, “This year due to the increased number of pilgrims, the main celebration is being held at Gurdwara Janam Asthan. All necessary facilities are being ensured for the pilgrims.” He said that the pilgrims will be provided air-conditioned buses, comfortable accommodation facilities and tight security. Gurdwara Janmasthan, Gurdwara Panja Sahib and other gurdwaras have been beautifully decorated. Sikh pilgrims will return to their homeland on April 19.
