Major attack on security forces in Chhattisgarh, 8 soldiers martyred in blast

Bijapur: Naxalites carried out a major attack on security forces in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. In this, 8 jawans of the state police unit DRG or District Reserve Guard (DRG) and a civilian driver were martyred. They were returning from an anti-Naxal operation when their vehicle was targeted. After this attack, the forensic team of Raipur branch of NIA is reaching Bijapur to investigate the spot.

It is being told that the IED-laden vehicle was blasted near the vehicle of the jawans. The explosion was so strong that a big crater was created on the road and the vehicle was blown to pieces. In the videos that have surfaced from the spot, it can be seen that pieces of the vehicle are scattered around. The Scorpio vehicle in which the jawans were travelling was completely burnt to ashes.

The magnitude of this horrific blast can be gauged from the fact that after the blast, the pieces of the vehicle hung on a nearby tree. The vehicle was completely destroyed and its steering was also found scattered at the spot. After the attack, the weapons of the jawans have also been recovered, which were completely destroyed. Let us tell you that this explosion It happened at 02.15 pm on Bedre-Kutru road in Bijapur district.

Bastar Range IG Sundarraj P said that DRG jawans were returning from the operation when they were attacked. He said that for the last three days, security forces were conducting operations in the border areas of Bijapur, Narayanpur and Dantewada districts, in which five Maoists were killed and their bodies were also recovered. During this, one jawan was also martyred in an encounter.

The IG said that they were returning after completing the search, when 8 DRG jawans were martyred and a driver was also martyred due to the blast of IED brought by Maoists near Ambeli village in Bedre-Kutru area of ​​​​Bijapur. The bodies of all the jawans martyred in the attack have been recovered.

An officer said that this is the biggest attack on security personnel by Naxalites in the last two years. Earlier in 2023, on 26 April, a convoy carrying security personnel in Dantewada, a neighboring district of Bijapur, was targeted by Naxalites, in which ten policemen and a civilian driver were killed.
