Brazil: Horrific road accident, 38 people died in collision between truck and bus

New Delhi. At least 38 people have died in a horrific road accident in Minas Gerais state of Brazil, while 13 others are injured. The accident happened when a tire of the bus burst, due to which the driver lost control and the bus collided with a truck. This information was given by the fire department officials, who reached the spot and conducted a rescue operation.

Local officials said that there were 45 passengers in the bus which had left from Sao Paulo, but its tire burst on the way and then it collided with a truck. After this, a car also came and collided with the bus, in which it is being said that three passengers were riding, who survived. The accident happened at 4 am.

Pictures from the scene show a truck mounted on the crushed car, with its wheel on the roof of the car. The Minas Gerais Fire Department says the accident took place on highway BR-116. Vehicle debris can be seen in pictures after the accident. A picture of the fire in the bus also surfaced, in which the bus is seen burning.

An official said that a police team arrived at the scene. The victims were taken to the hospital from the spot. Minas Gerais Governor Romeu Zema said on X that he has given orders to “help the victims and support their families” in the tragic accident on BR-116 in Teofilo Otoni.

Road accidents in Brazil
The death rate for road accidents in Brazil was 15.7 per 100,000 people in 2021, much higher than 8.8 in Argentina. Brazil has set a road safety target of halving the number of deaths by 2030, which is expected to save 86,000 lives. In September, a bus overturned in a similar accident, killing three people.
